Cat Safe Human Foods: 5 Human Foods Your Cat Can Eat
In our previous post we spoke about human foods that are dangerous for your cat. There are definitely some foods out there that your cat should never reach. However, on the more positive side of things – there are a few products you can share and enjoy munching together with your feline as they are cat safe human foods.
Cat Safe Human Foods Your Cat Can Eat
Eggs are a great source of protein for both cats and humans. Naturally, protein is the thing that your cat needs the most in their diet.
While brave humans (I am not one of them) can consume a raw egg – it is recommended that you avoid giving a raw egg to your cat. It can make them sick and interrupt their digestive system.
Giving your cat an egg is okay, but make sure that it’s cooked. Scrambled or boiled – doesn’t matter. You can enjoy them together for breakfast or dinner!
This one is obvious but worth mentioning for a few reasons we’ll talk about in a second. Cats are carnivores and they enjoy meat like nothing else in the world. Giving your kitty meat is perfectly safe if the meat is prepared right.
A nicely cooked chicken or beef isn‘t bad at all. In fact – some boiled chicken with eggs or carrots can make a nice feast for your paw friend. However, do stay away from meat with a lot of hard bones inside, meat that is covered in sauces, meatballs that might have garlic and onion, meat with spices etc.
While many people encourage a raw meat diet for your cat – if you decide to go for one talk to your vet first. If you’re going to give raw meat to your cat you should make sure it is fresh and high in quality.
Watermelons And Pumpkin
Watermelons and pumpkin are also on the list of cat safe human foods. These delicious fruits can often be your cat’s favorite treat. The watermelon is something that cats find refreshing and easy to munch on. If your cat doesn’t really like drinking water as much – maybe replace it with a slice of watermelon every once in a while. Trick them intro hydration!
When it comes to pumpkin – if you’re going to give your cat a pumpkin then go for the canned unsweetened one. Pumpkins are full of fibers that help with digestion, weight loss, the digestive tract and with the general health overall. But as we said – unsweetened, seed-free and canned pumpkin should be good every now and then.
You might think cats are all for the meat. Which..some of them are. But some cats can go crazy over veggies. Use this opportunity as there are some veggies that are good for cats.
Vegetables like carrots, green beans or asparagus can be a great treat for your paw friend. Steam them and if you add a little chicken in it – perfect. The vitamins and minerals that these veggies contain can help with your cat’s general health.
In fact, often times we can find them as an addition to the meat in the cat food we purchase.
Yup. You heard that well. If your kitten is suffering some tummy aches or is having dental problems – baby foods can be a great choice. Nowadays the palette of baby food flavors is endless. You can find those that contain meat. Your cat will dig in in no time and lick the bowl clean!
Even though these are cat safe human foods – keep in mind…
These foods shouldn’t replace the food you purchase specifically for your cat. While they can be a great treat and a great addition to your cat’s diet – they can not replace a portion of cat food.
If you are going to give them to your cat – also make sure to give them in reasonable amounts. After all, too much of everything can harm anyone.
There are tons of other foods safe for cats that we don’t have on this list. A few worth mentioning are:
- Baked potatoes (without salt or other spices)
- Blueberries (often found as a compound in cat food)
When you give fruits/veggies to your cat – always make sure that they are peeled. Also, make sure that the seeds are removed. You can blend them or chop them, mash them and serve them to your feline.
For example – a teaspoon of canned pumpkin can be a great source of fibers for your cat given a few times through out the week.
Your Cat Won’t Like Everything
Cats can be picky creatures so just because some foods are safe for them doesn’t mean that they will like it. It is always great to experiment and see which cat safe human foods is your cat going to approve.
Fruits or veggies are definitely something you should consider if you put your cat on a raw meat diet. When you prepare a meal for your cat you should always add them to the mix – since this is the only way your cat will have a good source of vitamins and minerals to go along with the meat protein.
Another important thing is to not deprive your cat from the protein that they need by giving them cat safe human foods.
If you are going to implement a specific diet in your feline – always consult with a vet. This is important so your cat isn’t deprived from all the nutrients needed for their health and well being.
Enjoy munching your favorite snacks with your cat!
Remember: Everything in moderation! You don’t want to overdo it. 😉
